I barely finished this book. First off, the book is complete at around 19%. The book drags then finishes very quickly. I was tempted to skim pages, but then I realized I was near the end. I was like WTH?!? This is one of the few books were I didn't like either h/h's. She was obnoxious sand stubborn and he was too weak. And let's not get into the countless other books added at the end. It would have been much better to make this a short story than call it a novel. At least that way the lack of character development and missing details would be excusable.
This was a quick shifter read. I liked the overall idea and the fast paced romance aspect. I was sad that the story ended at 20% of the book. I wish that had been in the blurb so I was prepared. I liked the determination that Cara had. She wasn’t weak and made the perfect match for Darian, the alpha of the pack. Overall I felt unfulfilled. I wanted more. I would be willing to read 3 stars #2OCC Reviews
This is an interesting romance, one of the few i've read about shifters. I couldnt put it down! And I am so glad it wasnt a cliff hanger! This is a fast read, and an enjoyable one. So sit back, get comfy, and enjoy the virginal bliss we all remember from our youth. Haha not going to say anything more, except memories will swirl within your mind as you read....
Cars has been taught to fear the shifters beyond the wall. Darian will do anything to protect his lack from Aldrich and his followers. When Cars and Darian actually talk they begin to discover where facts fall off, and assumptions and fears filled in the gaps.
This story has a strong abuse plotline, and some characters that are interesting to try and decide whether or not we can trust.
The premise is promising. However, the only time the story “shows” the reader what’s going on are the saucy scenes. The rest is bland “telling.”
I have a problem with the first real intimate scene between the heroine and the hero. He manipulates her into letting him touch her intimately to ease his inability to cope with his own sexual frustration. He doesn’t stop when she is clearly not ready and she physically tries to push him away. Yet, he insists he knows what is best for her and continues.
Shortly after this, the heroine turns into a manipulative vixen and withholds her virginity in order to chase selfish vendetta in the war. I know it’s a trope to assert her stubbornness and to rack up the sexual tension as they both tease each other without the satisfaction of coupling completion, but it doesn’t work if she had just discovered her sexuality the day before. Plus, using sex to manipulate people is a pet peeve of mine that drives me up a wall.
I know this is fiction. No one is really getting hurt or screwed over. However, big elements of this book simply aren’t my cup of tea. Thus, I did not finish reading.
I enjoyed this book very much. Can't wait for the next. The characters were superb and the storyline was exciting and the end was not anticipated.
I really enjoyed this new modern version of shifters and what seems to be after a holocaust. Shifters you know what in the world, and the humans are afraid. And then you have a manipulative guy who tries to create his own world. It's of course detrimental to everyone in his world. So Cara escapes and meets Darien, The Alpha of the shifters who live near the village of humans. They've been told the shifters are horrible and deadly, and she leaves the village because it's even worse in there! She of course finds it's not as it's been told!
